2003 Winter Series 5K #1
Wildwood Park
Course Set-up: Jim Collins
Registration: Charles Laverty
Photographer: Rob Botti
Finish Line: Walt Greene
With yesterday’s 10-inch snowfall prediction a distant
memory, 19 of South Central PA’s most
tenacious runners took on the
snow-covered hills of Wildwood Park.
Knowing the determination of these competitors, the
thought of canceling today’s event was not entertained.
Emerging first from the rolling hills was Lititz’ stand-out
Carl Spangler
in 20:32. Just a few frozen feet behind was Palmyra’s
John Painter with 21:03. Master runner Angie
Dickey
took first place for the women in 24:22. Pat
Thompson
came in second for the women with 38:12.
Following a warm-up with hot drinks and bagels, half
of the group took home a random prize.
Everyone then departed homeward to
plot their race strategy for event
#2 on Feb. 8th.
We also thank Deb Donahue and Carrie
Hawk from Cumberland
and Perry County Domestic Violence Services (DVS) for supporting
us on this frosty morning. Not only does
this series of races keep us all
in shape, we also strive to raise public
awareness and funds for the essential services this
organization provides. Thank you to today’s runners
for their generosity with supporting DVS. We
look forward to seeing everyone - and more- Feb
8, 2003.
