2003 Winter Series 5K #2
Wildwood Park
Registration: Charles Laverty
Timing: Walt Greene
Photography: Bryan and Rob Botti
Braving a 5-degree wind chill factor, a
snow-covered
course, and 18-wheelers zipping by, 24 runners
took on an alternate 5K course for Winter Series #2.
Yesterday's snowfall threatened to cancel today's
race, however, this hale and hearty crew was once
again undaunted by Mother Nature.
Taking repeat top honors was Lititz' own Carl
Spangler. Close behind was Palmyra
resident, John Painter. Triathlete
and Lance Ritter's dad, Mark, took third.
Mary Alice
McClintock came in first for the women in 31:57.
Of note - Chris Gipe ran
a 90-minute warm-up prior to today's race.
Once again, we thank Cumberland & Perry County
DVS for their generous support. Deb
Donahue and
Carrie Hawk provided the
post-race bagels as well as
random-prize gift certificates from Appleby's.
The
post-race coffee was donated by Susan
Pera of
The Cornerstone Coffeehouse.
It is our hope to donate more funds to DVS than we
did in 2002. Race #3 on March 1 should put
us
well-beyond last years donation of $208.
Thanks to
everyone participating for their generosity.
The question is: Who will win the $50 Appleby's
gift
certificate at race #3? Only those who have
run
all three races will qualify. Right now, we have
14
contenders. For those of you who couldn't make
all
three races, we will continue to have other great
random prizes as well - additional gift
certificates, Polartec gloves, and more. Clear
your calendar for race #3!!!
