With the onset of Spring a mere 15 days away, 26 runners toured the Wildwood 5K course for the last of the Winter Series. Our fearless group was undaunted by the “spring shower” that occurred immediately following the start. A PR day it was not, as the rain and recently melted snow made for muddy footing on the trail portion of the course. Capturing first place was new HARRC member, Bryan Brown, in 19:26. Chuck Wells, one of the few to complete all 3 events, came in second in 19:33. Dave Geesaman followed closely in third place with 19:45. Coming in first for the women (and placing 6th overall) was Jessica Hawthorne in 20:53. Rhonda Hakundy took second with 32:27. Our goal with this series of 5K, in addition to providing a break from the long days of winter, is to raise funds for Cumberland and Perry County Domestic Violence Services. This year, we PRed with a donation of $450! Deb Donahue, executive director for DVS, was present and graciously accepted the donated funds. Many thanks to ALL the runners for participating and for their generous donations. Thanks to all those loyal HARRC members that pitched in and made it all happen - Charlie Laverty, Jim Collins, Dave Lebo, Steve & Debbie Whittle, Stacey Pietras, Walt Greene, and Brad Colwell. We would also like to thank DVS for the post-race carbs and random prize donations. In an unbiased drawing, Josh Lebo won the pair of Reebok Shoes (now he won’t have to race in his untied basketball sneakers...) Clear your calendar for Winter Series 2005! Next year we hope to gain permission to use the Wildwood Nature Center for the start and end point for the race. The results: 1. Bryan
Brown 19:26 |
