Spring into Summer Race #3

Two-year old Garrett Hughes reminded us all today that “getting there” is half the fun of running.  In the midst of the Kids Run, Garrett spied the only small puddle left along Riverfront Park.  Being wiser beyond his years, Garrett knew a good thing when he saw it.  He detoured off to the side and took a two-legged hop into the puddle.  I guess we should all remember to puddle-jump every now and then…..

For the Big Kids, it was Marysville’s Chris Bell who took the lead and never looked back.  Chris’ time was 17:52.   Taking second and third respectively were Staten Island’s Mike Leathers in 18:20 followed by Jere Dorowish in 19:03.  First male Masters, coming in 5th overall, was Dan Lewis in 19:50.   Twenty-year old Holly Feeser took first for the ladies in a swift 21:06.   Not far behind Holly, the race for 2nd and 3rd was closely contested between Kim Leathers (21:10) and Belinda Heltzel (21:12).  First  female masters was Molly Hans in 24:42.

With the last of our three 5K races in the books, HARRC is pleased to announce that our total donation to DVS of Cumberland & Perry Counties is a PR of $862.00!  Thanks to ALL participants for their generous donations!  We are grateful to the East Shore YMCA and Chad Krebs for graciously allowing us to use their facility.  A big THANKS to everyone who donated their time & talents  – Debbie & Steve Whittle; Deb & Jim Donahue;  Charlie Laverty; Al Mercik; Joanne Caulfield; Stacey Pietras and Walt (what would we do without him?) Greene.  We are indebted to Deb Donahue and DVS for providing coffee, Panera baked goods, and random prizes.

We wish everyone a continued healthy running year and look forward to seeing you again for Spring Series 2007!

Today’s fun facts…….the 9AM start was welcome as race-time temp was 64 degrees with 80% humidity………..we anticipate that we’ll be seeing  more fast times from CD East track runner, Luke Schrader……….we suspect that the 40 – 49 year old female runners were all home coloring eggs today, as we had no participants in that age group………while it’s doubtful that Tom Davis drove all the way from his home state of Florida for today’s race, we’re happy he came anyway …..apologies to Frank Crupi, whom we bypassed in the results.  We did have an award for Frank; he was gracious about our error and we’re back on his good side………. and be on the look-out for the “Runner Dude”, “Runner Girl” and “Gotta Run”  bumper stickers that were given out in today’s race.
