Greenbelt Biathlon  

Today our fearless crew took on a new adventure midst the July heat and humidity.  The inaugural HARRC biathlon, consisting of a run 3 miles -bike 3 miles - run 3 miles format, proved to be a hot, enjoyable, and unique challenge.   Thirty runners showed their mettle and completed the entire event or came up with their own run/bike combination.

Prizes were awarded to the top 5 male and female finishers who completed the entire event.  Winning the yellow jersey (well..actually a Powerade gift pack…)  was Masters standout, Gary Grobman, in 51:52.   Ironman finisher,  Mark Ritter, came in second. 

2005 Dedicated Runners of the Year,  Sammy and Mike Smith,  took 3^rd and 4^th respectively.  New Cumberland’s own Dave Lebo claimed the 5^th spot.

The womens’ race was a tie between the duo of Licia White and Diane Gutshall in 58:37. They finished a remarkable 3^rd and 4^th overall.   Susan Seeley was close behind in 61:27.  Rounding out the top five were HARRC secretary Rachel Murray, and Marathon Race Director, Mary Alice McClintock. 

Following distribution of random prizes, everyone went home to figure out the exact conversion of biking- into- running miles for their yearly logs.   Thanks to course monitor, Charlie Laverty, who kept everyone on course and well-hydrated at the turn-around.
