Winter running weather doesn’t get any better than this! With a race-time temp. of 42 degrees sunny skies and light winds, 45 runners took on the rolling hills of Wildwood Park for race #1 of this year’s Winter Series. Taking first place was Shiremanstown’s Dave Crown in 19:02. Coming in second overall was HARRC’s own Becki McClintock in a swift 19:20. Our overall winners took home fleece blankets as prizes. Taking third overall, and the last of the sub-20 gang, was Masters’ standout Gary Grobman in 19:35. Seventeen-year-old Megan Earley was the second overall female with an impressive time of 23:45. Runners were treated to post-race food provided by Cornerstone Coffeehouse, Pennsylvania Bakery, and Giant Food. Following distribution of awards and random prizes, everyone departed home to log in their daily mileage and clear their calendars for the upcoming January and February races. Thanks to ALL runners for coming today and their generous donations to DVS of Cumberland and Perry Counties. We’re off to a great start. Wake your neighbors and bring your friends for races #2 and #3 in the series! Today’s fun facts:… Today was Carl Spangler’s 773rd race……. Ed Pague GPS’ed the course as 3.1 miles and we believe him……we learned that gift-wrap ribbon doesn’t support a string of Christmas ornaments very well…….the longest-distance-traveled award goes to Robert Arnold from Monroeton……the most fiercely-contested age-group was male 50 – 59 with ten runners….. and .we set a new dog-participation record today with 2 Hungarian Vizslas and one Murphy Pietras.
