Although it was 8:30 in the morning, the humidity made it feel as though HARRC had returned to the 1:30 starts. And that was before the 25 runners began the run. Phil Spagnolo ran 18:30 for the fun run. The other 24 runners headed north along the upper river walk. The group displayed plenty of talent and lots of speed. Frank Leiter, still celebrating his Harrisburg mile success, ran a 5:58/mile pace to finish first in 29:48. Dave Oyler and the ageless Tom Snedden finished within 10 seconds of each other at 31:43 and 31:53, respectively. After those three, the mortal runners started to trickle in, with Mike Garman, Andy O’Donnell, Mark Barnhardt, Bob Kramer, Randy Murphy, Frank Crupi and John Oyler rounding out the top 10. Further in the pack were Dave Falgoust and my favorite runner – Buck the Dog, who always refuses to give his name. I guess Dave is his agent and protects his running client.
