River Front 5 Miler The temperature was in the mid-20s as the runners prepared for the run. Marge Lebo accurately commented that the water at the half-way point probably was frozen. It was by the time I went back there after the run. Those who ran the fun run were Phil Spagnolo, Les Powell, Rob Botti, Sheldon Goodrich and Tadd (I’m gonna wear shorts to show you guys that it’s not cold) Morris, who covered the two miles in 11:31. Eighteen runners headed north along the upper river walk, with the river’s ice coating showing us that winter is near. In the group were two very young runners – Joe (12) and John (10) Sanderson – running their first HARRC event. They told me that they run 3 to 4 miles regularly and were prepared. I wasn’t absolutely sure how they’d run and tried to convince them that running the 2-mile fun run was an option. Both ran the full five miles, with John running 41:13 and Joe 43:12. They reached their goals and beat some of those “slow” times; but don’t let John know that the person who finished right in front of him is nearly 70 years old! Congratulations to both John and Joe. That’s a heck of an effort. Mike Garman finished first in the 5-miler with a time of 31:30. Frank Crupi was second with a PR time of 34:25. Good Run, Frank! Gary Grobman was third. with a time of 35:07. FIVE MILE RUN
