Cumberland Valley Cross Country 5K

The morning broke with bright sunshine but the temperatures was a cool 45 degrees when the runners started with a lap around the track by Eagle View Middle School on the hill above the Cumberland Valley High School.  Visibility could be measured in miles but only Tadd Morris could see more than a few feet in front of him as he was the only person (and front runner) to run the course exactly as it is designed by following all the signs correctly.  The rest of the pack, led by Mark Barnhardt missed a turn and ended up making the first leg a little longer than it should have been.  Fortunately we were able to correct the mistake at the end of the run by shortening the finish to compensate for the mistake.

The course itself is comprised of some hills and is run almost entirely on grass.  The hill climbs are no conducive to fast times unless you are a cross country fanatic like Tadd.   Tadd Morris was way out in front of his colleagues followed by Mark Barnhardt, Mike Garman and Frank Leiter (who later teamed with Tadd for some 440 speedwork on the track).  Leading the ladies was Karen Updegraff followed by Stephanie Hoke and the running duo of Tracey Stewart and Jen Gilbert.

The complete finishing order:

WEEKLY SUNDAY 1:30 PM CLUB RUN
April 29, 2001

Riverfront Park 4 Miles

Race Director: Brad Colwell

Three dedicated runners showed up on a beautiful sunny cool day for the 1:30 run. We ran a simple 4 mile course: two miles up river and two miles back.

Adrian Tomer from Carlisle joined us for the first time.  Adrian, Andy O'Donnel and Brad Colwell ran together for three miles but Brad couldn’t keep up.  Adrian and Andy finished in 30:27.  Brad finished in 31:10.
