As temperatures hovered around the freezing point, ten runners converged on an old out-and-back course for one last club run before Christmas.  Last used in 1997, this 6.55-mile route winds through Summerdale and affords beautiful views of the Susquehanna River and downtown Harrisburg.  Flat it is not, as running on streets named “College Hill” and “Mountain” should indicate.  Although it is challenging, none thought it too difficult.  Winner Tom Snedden finished alone in 46:12, followed by youngster Mike Garman in 48:02.  Patti Adami was the first female runner with a time of 1:01:29 and Mary Alice McClintock was second with a clock time of 1:13:27 and a chip time of 1:10:47.  Gary Grobman didn’t think the distance was long enough, so he ran past the turnaround point.  When he saw a sign saying, “Welcome to Ohio,” he decided to come back.  Happy Holidays!

Race Director in Training: Shawna Brent

On Dec 22, 10 of us arrived to run the ACGS points race at 130 as written in the newsletter.  The race director was not there.  Thanks to the efforts or two members, we ran an impromptu 4 mile run from The East Pennsboro Middle School.  At the end of the run I made a listing in order of the finishers.  It is as follows:

Geoff Brent (pushing Rachel in the stroller)
    Shawna Brent
    John Painter
Lester Stickler (new to the Sun runs)
Dana Burger (who kindly provided water)
    Diane Gutshall
Angela Braun (a new HARRC member)
    Doug Dietrich
    Frank Leiter
    Pat Thompson

* There was a mistake made when the calendar was put together by our new, rookie Sunday Race Coordinator.  We have sentenced him to 10 mile run!  The only Sunday run that is not scheduled for 8:30 AM is on the day of our annual picnic.
