The snow had already started falling and the wind-chill was 1 degree; yet, over a dozen hardy souls showed up to run the Sunday morning run. Forget about times, safety and traction was the main concerns. The runners made their way north along the upper river walk, which was still snow-covered from storms earlier in the week. Many ran on the side of the path for better footing. John Donovan was first in the 2-miler, followed by Marge Lebo. Doug Dietrich, who started 13 minutes late, was 3rd after considering his adjusted time. Sam McClintock was next, followed by Frank Crupi and Bruce Irvin. The last two runners were easy to see, as both wore high-visibility yellow jackets. In the 5-miler, Dana Burger was one minute ahead of the law-firm sounding group of: Kramer, McClintock, Stewart and White. Less than 1 minute later, current and past club presidents Jim Collins and Mario Gordon arrived. When I went back to get the water at the turnaround point, it was literally frozen. I had to smash the cups on the table to empty the water. Hopefully the next time we’re at the river for this run, the conditions are better. Kudos to this group of dedicated runners who did not let the weather bother or deter them.
