The Dog Run: 5K or 10K

HO! HO! HO!  Santa’s ‘naughty and nice’ list just got longer.  First to be added to the latter list is Becky McClintock.  She took off like a flying reindeer and left the rest of the runners in the snow (ok, dust), finishing the 5K in 18:40.  Next, Santa will add Gary Grobman.  He was second to the 3.1-mile mark, but went back for another loop to win the 10K in 41:31.  He deserves an extra star next to his name for not getting lost.

Also making the ‘nice’ list are my wonderful husband, Tom, who got up early on this cold morning to help me mark the course, and Steve Whittle, who alerted me before it was too late that it was AGCS week.  Since we had two races, the 5K was designated the official AGCS event.

Making the ‘naughty’ list are the PNC Police, who once again hassled our group.  While we appreciate that they have a job to do, they exceeded their authority and will certainly win no awards for courtesy or congeniality.  We were adjacent to, not on, PNC property, and the manner in which they approached us was confrontational.  I guess the menacing and shifty appearance of the group caused us to be mistaken for bank robbers (although it’s a little difficult to conceal a weapon in running tights).  Coal for their stockings!
